Will Regine still do 'Darna?'

MANILA --- Whatever happened to the proposal to Regine Velasquez for her to do "Darna?"
"I was never offered to do the 'Darna' project on GMA-7," she clarifies. "The one who made me an offer was Viva Films. After my short stint as Darna in 'Captain Barbell' last year got very good feedback, they wanted me to do the full-length film version.
"When we started doing my first soap, 'Forever in My Heart,' GMA-7 has not yet purchased the rights for Darna. We were already taping when I was told that they acquired the rights, for both TV and the movies, which means hindi na matutuloy 'yung 'Darna' project ng Viva. E, alangan namang they would offer Darna to me pa when I'm already in 'Forever', 'di ba? So I'd still love to do Darna, but the movie version, not the one on TV. Good luck na lang to whoever GMA-7 would choose to play her in the TV series."
She's glad because her "Pinoy Pop Superstar" continues to rate very well despite good competition offered by Zsa Zsa Padilla's show on ABS-CBN.
"It's funny but some quarters, pinag-aaway kami ni Zsa Zsa. What they don't know is that I even text Zsa Zsa during our show na 'Hoy, ang sexy-sexy mo ngayon sa outfit mo.' Our shows might be competing, but we're not. Actually, happy ako sa 'Born Diva' nila because it's also a good concept that gives semi-professionals the opportunity to refine their craft and get a better chance in showbiz.
"Iba naman ang format namin sa 'Pinoy Pop Superstar' because our contestants are new, raw talents who're being given a break for the first time. I'm really happy when I helped in discovering new talents like Sarah Geronimo, Rachelle Ann Go and Mark Bautista whose careers now, humahataw na rin, 'di ba? It means the industry is growing and hindi 'yung puro kami-kami na lang na datihan ang laging nakikita ng tao." (MNS)
