Leyte Dance Theater to show RP history via folk dance

NEW YORK, April 1, 2005 --- A breathtaking portrait of Philippine History will be interpreted by the folk dancing mastery of the Leyte Dance Theate (LDT) in a one-night performance on June 6, 7:30 pm, at the Fashion Institute of Technology’s (FIT) Haft Auditorium, located on 7th Avenue and 27th Street in New York City.

Presented by the Philippine Consulate General of New York in cooperation with the 2005 Philippine Independence Day Committee, Inc., this 12 year-old nothing-short-of-spectacular dance group headed by Artistic Director Jess de Paz is composed of young students with an innate passion for dance.

LDT’s performances are based on the dynamic infusion of western techniques on indigenous movements that glosses over the exotic and the mystifying.

The dance company has been identified with fusing ethno-folksy and mimetic actions, a distinctive style that is richly visual, emotionally stirring and truly riveting.

Mila C. Espina of the Sun-Star Daily quotes: “The ASEAN theme was masterfully delineated by the Leyte Dance Theater in exquisite choreography and glittering costumes …. and showed the Visayan skills in dancing comparable with the best in the world”.

This artistic and cultural offering is another production of Magno PI Inc. headed by Hector Magno.

Tickets are $100 for sponsors, $35 and $25 for the general public.

For information, call the Philippine Consulate at (212) 764-1330, x-336; Hector (732) 563-4554, (908) 229-0155; Nimia Lacebal, (973) 338-4668 or Mila Mendez, (917) 443-3634.
