ABS - CBN defends Piolo on sex tape

ABS - CBN defends Piolo on sex tape

ABS-CBN Channel 2 has sent a formal letter of complaint to the Professional Artist Managers Inc. (PAMI), protesting what the network said was “irresponsible journalism” practiced by rival network GMA 7.

In a letter to PAMI president June Rufino, the Kapamilya network said GMA 7’s show biz show “StarTalk” aired parts of a sex video and “blatantly named” ABS-CBN contract star Piolo Pascual as one of the participants.

Senior vice president for Star Magic (ABS-CBN talent center) Johnny Manahan signed the protest letter dated April 4, 2005 in which he said: “Although [‘Startalk’] gave Mr. Pascual the benefit of the doubt by saying ... there is no certainty that he is the one in the video, serious damage has been done because [the show] made very grave insinuations. We have reviewed the alleged video and are certain that the person they are pointing [to] is not Mr. Pascual.”

Where’s the mole? The video features two males in intercourse while another person is recording it. The talk show report said the one wearing a necklace could be Pascual.

Star Magic PR chief Rikka Dylim told Inquirer Entertainment on Tuesday: “[That] man does not ... have a mole on the face like Piolo’s. Also, if you’ve seen Piolo’s fashion pictorials, you will see that his belly button is not the same as that man’s.”

Manahan said his network was “seeking the assistance” of PAMI in initiating action against GMA 7 and the offending show.

“We are aware and are in full support of your campaign against unethical journalism,” he said. “What transpired is another concrete example of an entertainment talk show’s neglect of . . . ethical standards just to come up with a scoop.”

The network has also sent a letter of complaint to the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board, according to Dylim. “This will be our crusade from now on,” she said. “ABS-CBN Star Magic condemns ... irresponsible journalism.” Manahan said they were “studying legal options.

Angelica no longer hurting

MANILA --- Angelica Panganiban has revealed that it’s only recently that she feels she’s completely healed from the pain caused by her break-up with her ex-boyfriend, Carlo Aquino.

“Actually, ang pinakamasakit doon ay ang dahilan ng paghihiwalay namin,” she revealed. “Kung bakit ang naging cause pa ay si Camille (Prats, then her best friend).

“Camille and I have remained friends pero ‘di katulad ng dati ang friendship namin kaya masakit. Halos sabay kaming nagsimula sa showbiz bilang child stars tapos masasayang lang ng basta basta ang friendship namin.”

She now considers Heart Evengalista her best friend. An only child, Angelica treats Heart, who is two years older, as an elder sister. Heart turned 21 last February, while Angelica is turning 19 in November.

“I listen to her pangaral,” she said. “And I’m learning a lot from her.”

Heart is giving Angelica tips on how to handle her earnings. Angelica imparts these to her mom, who handles her earnings.

“Mayaman ang pamilya (Ongpaucos of the famed Barrio Fiesta chain of restaurants) ni Heart and yet matipid siya. She knows how and when to spend her money.

“Maganda rin ang pag-handle niya ng kanyang career (both of them are Star Magic talents). She’s both professional and talented. I want to emulate her,” Angelica said.

Angelica will soon start work on her new teleserye on ABS-CBN, “Vietnam Rose,” with Maricel Soriano and John Estrada, among others. She heard that the people behind the teleserye are currently asking talents from Magic Circle to audition for the role of her leading man.

One of them, Angelica heard, is Carlo.

“I really don’t mind working with Carlo,” she said. “Trabaho lang naman ang lahat, ‘di ba? Last year, we did ‘Mano Po 3’ together. Wala namang naging problema. Wala ring problema kapag kami ni Carlo ang maging magkapareha dito sa ‘Vietnam Rose’.” (MNS)

Rufa Mae wants to do a movie

MANILA --- Rufa Mae Quinto desperately wants to do a movie. But she has a problem. Her preferred director, Joyce Bernal, who directed Rufa Mae in the box-office hits “Booba” and “Masikip sa Dibdib,” is under exclusive contract to Star Cinema and ABS-CBN.

The director cannot do any movie with other production outfit. Unless Star Cinema produces a movie for Rufa Mae, she cannot be directed by Direk Joyce. “But I promised to help her in any way I can,” said Bernal.

“Last year ko pa ginawa ang ‘Masikip sa Dibdib’,” said Rufa Mae, “kaya nakakasabik na gumawa uli ng kahit isa ngayong taon.”

It is on TV where Rufa Mae is currently busy. She has three TV shows, “S.O.P.,” “Bubble Gang” and “Idol Ko si Kap,” all produced by GMA-7.

Her businesses, a beauty parlor called Booba and a travel agency, are doing well. What about her lovelife? “Ayos din,” she answered.

Basketball star Rudy Hatfield, if you have forgotten, is her boyfriend. And they have been on for almost three years now. (MNS)
