Last Monday, I was able to see the new Batman movie over at the Newport Mall Cineplex and I must say it was a pretty neat flick–well directed, and awesomely written.
Batman turned out to be the dark, mysterious and scary vigilante that he’s supposed to be, and his origin was so meticulously detailed that the audience was left with no more question marks hanging over their heads.
Probably the most thought–provoking line in the movie aside from the dialogues about fear, which was the actual theme of the movie, was Bruce Wayne’s explanation to Alfred the butler why he had to wear a mask to be able to change Gotham City. “With this mask, I can be what I really want to be”. Bruce Wayne said,
The line is tantamount to saying that in order to be what you want to be, you must be somebody else - A paradox of Sophoclean proportions, to say the least.
But after careful analysis, the statement appears to be true. Which, lead me to conclude that whatever appears to be true must be true.
Therefore, we all wear masks. We wear a mask at work to prevent our co-workers from prying on our private lives. A mask to project the image of hard work, even though our eyes are sprouting out of its sockets either by sheer sleepiness or justpure laziness. A mask to present an aura of a happy life even though in reality, we just had a rough sailing with money matters, marriage, kids, affairs and whatever ruins our lives.
We wear masks even in our private lives. A mask to show our family that we are doing well at work even though a pink slip was just handed over to our desks, or a promotion we have been waiting for but never came. A mask to make our spouses believe that the bonding is tight and the marriage is intact, even though just the other night, someone slept with somebody else.
But the statement “we wear masks to be what we really want to be” begs the question, ”who we really are?” Are we a closet of multi-colored masks, with masks for every situation that arises? Or are we a factory of lies, which couldn’t cope with the reality that our real selves aren’t good enough for this cynical world.

Krisitine Heromosa wants out of Diether’s life

MANILA --- Actress Kristine Hermosa has filed for the annulment of her nearly one-year marriage to actor Diether Ocampo before the Makati Prosecutor’s Office. The case has been raffled to Judge Rebecca Mariano of Makati Regional Trial Court Branch 136. Mariano declined to comment on the case without the consent of the concerned parties.
Reports said Hermosa and Ocampo had no marriage license when they wed and they registered different dates of their marriage in two documents.
One document showed July 14, 2004 as the date of the wedding, while another document indicated it was held on Sept. 12, 2004.
The case confirmed reports that surfaced in November that Hermosa and Ocampo wed through civil rites officiated by Mayor Tony Esquivel of Jaen, Nueva Ecija. The two neither confirmed nor denied the reports. Hermosa’s filing of the case did not affect her relationship with Ocampo. The couple recently starred in ABS-CBN’s “Till Death Do Us Part.” Hermosa reportedly auditioned for the lead role in the new teleserye “Ang Panday” but actress Heart Evangelista got the role, which would have reunited Hermosa onscreen with former boyfriend Jericho Rosales.
Ocampo stars in the Star Cinema suspense-drama “Nasaan Ka Man” opposite Claudine Barretto. (MNS)

MANILA --- It turned out ABS-CBN does not really want a total newcomer as Jericho Rosales’ love interest in “Ang Panday.” In a special presscon, they officially presented Heart Evangelista as Eden, “Ang Puso ng Panday,” after they auditioned 100 wannabes. And why did they select Heart?
“Iba ang titigan nila ni Echo,” says Director Toto Natividad. “May magic sila together at maski si Echo, na-excite kay Heart. This version is different from the FPJ movies. This is more of a love story, action-romance, kaya very important ang leading lady.”
“After we saw their VTR,” says the other director, Rechie del Carmen, “we said, ito na nga, wala ng iba. Let’s resume our taping and not waste any time. Their combination really works on screen. May nagustuhan din kaming ibang nag-audition, pero hindi kasintindi ni Heart.”
How does Heart feel about it? “Wow!” she gushes.
“First, thanks for the opportunity. This is a challenge that will change everything for me. I’ll leave the teenybopper roles I used to do and be a woman and I welcome it. I have to grow since I’m 20 na.”
How did her parents react, especially her dad who’s very conservative, particularly now that she’ll have love scenes with Echo?
“He’s tensed, scared. But he was assured nothing very drastic will happen. Dadahan-dahanin lang.”
How does she feel working with Echo?
“We’ve worked together in the movie, ‘Trip’, but I was paired with John Prats and he’s with Kristine Hermosa. Ngayon pa lang kami magkakapareha and I’m thrilled, of course, kasi alam ko maraming naghangad na makapareha siya sa role na ito. I asked my best friend, Angelica Panganiban, who worked with him in ‘Santa-Santita,’ what he’s like, and she said I should not worry at all. She said Echo is very kind, aaalayan daw ako every step of the way, so I’m not scared and I look forward to working with him. Judging from the VTR we did, I think we make a different kind of connection with each other.”
And how does Echo feel now that Heart has been chosen to replace Melissa Ricks?
“Relieved, kasi ang tagal nag-search and I’m glad, at last, nakita na rin kung sino ang bagay sa akin. I think Heart is perfect for the role and I got excited when I saw the response sa chemistry naming dalawa on screen.
Actually, lahat ng nag-audition, magagaling, pero iba nga ang chemistry namin ni Heart and that’s very important. The viewers will see that when they watch the show. It’s worth the long wait.” (MNS)

MANILA --- What can we expect to see in ABS-CBN’s s upcoming teleserye, titled ‘Vietnam Rose?’ Answer: Lots of Vietnam, as the cast, which includes no less than Maricel Soriano with John Estrada and Angelica Panganiban, are currently there shooting some scenes. Joel Lamangan is directing the teleserye.
“Vietnam Rose” is Maricel’s first time to do a teleserye and she admits to having a qualm. Thus, she’s grateful she has Direk Joel, with whom she has worked with in three movies, “Mila,” “Mano Po 2” and “I Will Survive,” for her director. She trusts him so much.
John was in “Hiram,” which also starred Kris Aquino, Dina Bonnevie, Heart Evangelista and Anne Curtis. Angelica also came from a teleserye. She was Piolo Pascual’s leading lady in ABS-CBN’s “Mangarap Ka.” (MNS)
