JERSEY CITY - Two of the most prominent Fil Ambands in the music scene, Bleud and The Happy Analogues will appear on the TFC program “Speak Out” on February 25 and March 3, respectively.

The bands, both under the Fil Am independent record label, Soulworks Records, were invited to play their music on the youth oriented talk show which airs every Sunday night on the Filipino Channel. The Jersey bands flew to San Francisco to tape the episodes early this month.

Bleud made an impact back in 2005 after releasing their best-selling debut album, ‘Musings of a Caffeine Addict’, which turned out a number of hits, including the original version of the song ‘Bye Bye Na’.

They also became the first independent band from Jersey City to land on the most popular internet music store, Apple’s iTunes Music Store, due to the album’s popularity.

The band is currently recording their sophomore album that is scheduled for a fall 2007 release, and they are also releasing their second music video for the single ‘Animé Girl.

The band’s first music video was for the single ‘Hello My Friends, Hello’, which was released in the Philippines by Alpha Music Philippines.

Meanwhile, the Happy Analogues has made its way into the competitive music scene via hit singles that they released on two critically-acclaimed compilation albums: Perf De Castro’s ‘Leyte Benefit Album’, which features the Analogues’ song ‘Beautiful Pain’, and Soulworks Records’ summer 2006 hit compilation ‘Rock in the Box, which contains their hit single, ‘Alaala’.

The Analogues are releasing their debut album called ‘Lilacs & Politics this spring.

New officers of Knights of Rizal New Jersey Chapter sworn in
By Rita Villadiego

THEY waltzed, swayed to the beat to celebrate the induction of officers of the Knights of Rizal last Saturday night, February 3, affirming their commitment to honor the great hero.

Lito Gajilan was sworn in for his second term as New Jersey chapter commander of the Knights of Rizal.

Gajilan was able to increase the chapter membership 3-folds, and the attendance during the monthly meetings has climbed tremendously.

To promote the ideals of Rizal, Gajilan said the New Jersey chapter had sponsored oratorical competition for young students of New Jersey. They also participated in the Ambassador’s Tour to the Philippines and hosted the Knights of Rizal’s international assembly in New Jersey last year. The international assembly was attended by members from Europe, Asia, Canada and the US.

Twice a year, members of the Knights of Rizal and friends gather at the Rizal Park on Columbus Drive to pay respect to the national hero who helped expose the abuses of the Spanish colonial government in the Philippines.

Roger Alama, former regional commander for US, paid tribute to Rizal’s grace and dignity, love of country, chivalry and pride. “His ideals will not perish in the hearts and minds of our people,” Alama said.

Aside from Gajilan, those who were sworn in as new officers were: Gani Puertolano as Deputy Commander; Jun Hornilla, Chancellor; Francis Sison, Pursuivant; Ronnie Atinaja, Deputy Pursuivant; Rodrigo de la Paz, Excheguer; Gerry Austria, Deputy Excheguer; Wilson Versoza, archivist; and Ed Toloza, auditor.

The event was solemn, the food was great and Knights of Rizal, their families and friends shared this special moment.

Deputy consul Millie Thomeczek, the keynote speaker, urged the officers to continue to “live the values of peace and nationalism as espoused by Dr. Jose Rizal”.
