PACCAL inducts new set of officers

THE Pan American Concerned Citizens Action League, Inc. (PACCAL) new officers for 2007-2009 will be inducted on March 31 at the Dante Alighieri Society in Jersey City, announced Linda Mayo, PACCAL Executive Director.

The induction will commence at 6:00 pm.

PACCAL, is a multi-service tax exempt 501 (c3) organization serving the health and human service needs of the Filipino and other Asian community in Hudson County.
The officers to be inducted are:

President – Betty Buenviaje; Vice President – Edgar Rosales; Recording Secretary – Crispy Mirasol; Corresponding Secretary – Zeny Valerio; Treasurer – Susan Liguori; Assistant Treasurer – Helen Santillan; Auditor – Delfin Iglesia

The new board members are: Guy Catrillo, Leni Concepcion; Clara Hayes; J.T.S. Mallonga, Esq.; Crispy Mirasol; Merilyn Narciso; Rudy Nicolas; Marilou Songco.

Public Relations Officer -- Joey Mayo; Community Outreach -- Dennis Hayes; Advisers -- Fred T. Diaz, Jose G. Red; Senior Coordinator --Jose P. Genito; Youth Coordinator -- Alan Alda, Jake Buenviaje; Cultural & Arts Consultants -- Virgie Alvarez, Freida Pecardal, Art Zamora; Consultants -- New Concept Global Resources, Inc.; and Executive Director -- Linda Mayo.

The new president, Buenviaje, is energetic and passionate both as a community leader and as a business entrepreneur. A former Fashion Consultant of La Belle Boutique and Group USA, Inc., she now owns and operate Kusina Restaurant in Jersey City together with her husband Jimmy.

Buenviaje’s leadership skills was enhanced in 1999 when she was chosen by the PEW Civic Enterpreneurs Initiative Training Program as one of 20 selected in Hudson County to undergo a rigid two-year leadership training. This program was supported by a grant from the PEW Charitable Trusts, the 5th largest foundation in the United States.

Since then, Mrs. Buenviaje became a Board Member of Horizon Health Center; a Leadership Mentor at the New Jersey City University Leadership Training Program and a graduate of the Princeton Center for Leadership Training.

Her community activism spans many organizations. She is the corresponding secretary of the Ladies for Rizal, Inc., New Jersey Chapter; active member of the Legion of Mary and a Eucharistic Minister of St. Joseph Church, J.C.; Charismatic Outreach Ministry Foundation, Inc.; PAFCOM Friendship Night co-chair (1999); and Philippine Senior Citizens International, Inc. (PSCI).

P.A.P.I. presents its 2007 muses

6 smart ladies and one exceptionally talented young girl were presented by Performing Arts Philippines, In. (PAPI) as its 2007 Muses amidst enthusiastic cheers and applauses of an audience that filled the Fiesta Grill on Westside Avenue, Jersey City last Saturday, March 10, .

Said Muses will be crowned at a Gala Coronation Ball on August 18 at the Grand Ballroom of the Sheraton Hotel – Newark Intl. Airport in New Jersey. Proceeds from the affair will go into funding P.A.P.I.’s cultural (free teaching of Philippine folkdances) and educational (scholarship grants to junior PAPI members) – the two main propects of the organization.

Last year’s muses, led by Mrs. P.A.P.I. 2006 – Edith Consul, Miss P.A.P.I. 2006 – Vina Joy Verzosa, Miss Young P.A.P.I. 2006 – Maricris Tejada, joined by Miss Little P.A.P.I. 1999 – Lauren Nicole Maramba -- welcomed the incoming muses with bouquets of roses.

Merilyn H. Narciso, Ball Chair, gave the Welcome Address, VP Norma C. Rabara led the Invocation, while two kindergarten students – Katrina Remo & Miah Gonzales (grandchildren of Prexy Remy and VP Norma, respectively) sang the Star Spangled Banner and recited the Oath of Allegiance.

Keynote Speaker of the Night was Mr. Carlos B. Sinnung, while Mrs. Beth Sinnung and Dr. Alice de Guzman were the Emcees.

Presented as “Mrs. Performing Arts 2007” is Luz (Luchie) Vivas Changco, a Senior Vice President in Finance at the Financial Security Assurance Inc. in New York City.

Stacy R. Rosales is “Miss Performing Arts 2007”. She is an honor graduate in Molecular Biology (minors in Chemistry & Psychology) from the Montclair State University, and works with Procter & Gamble Pharmaceuticals, Inc. as Pharmaceutical Sales Rep and Account Manager.

Rudilyn P. Lacson is “Miss Debutante P.A.P.I. 2007”. She is a consistent honor student

Anne Marie Sobredilla is this year’s “Miss Teen P.A.P.I.”. She is in 8th Grade at the Holy Family School in Lakewood,.

Michaela (Kayla) Gaylan is “Miss Little P.A.P.I. 2007”.
