RECEPTOR Band will perform at the Philippine American Hispanic Expo on May 27 to 28 at the New Jersey Convention Center in Edison.
The band’s members are Eric Applegate, Pablo Furtado, Shon Mohsin, and Tony Cortes. Receptor began as four separate artists from four corners of the world, nevertheless called in life to spread their music. Their diverse paths in life and music led them to the mecca, New York City, where the musical melting pot would be stirred.
The band’s members each bring their own dimension to the group’s collective core. Shon Mohsin (Bangladeshi-American) fronts receptor with ruggedly intense vocals and socially conscious subject matter. Tony Cortes (Puerto Rican -American) provides guitar riffs that are the meat and potatoes of the band’s musical stew. The hard-hitting yet intricate punch of Eric Applegate (Caucasian/Filipino American) on the drums keeps the band churning while Pablo Furtado (Brazilian) first attracted rock lovers with his spicy and moody harmonic bass sounds.
The group has a CD called Abrazos 2006 benefiting the Fight Against Breast Cancer. Their songs inclulde Apathy, Turbulence, Gravity Betrayer, Wanderllust, Unbound and God in Me, among others. -- Rita Villadiego

On the morning of April 16, 2007, acts of such unspeakable and unimaginable horror took place on this campus that, even weeks later, our minds cannot fully grasp them. As the Virginia Tech family struggles to heal and to learn from this tragedy, we thank the Asian-American community for the outpouring of support that has humbled, comforted and sustained us.
Asians and Asian-Americans have been, and will continue to be valued members of the student body, faculty and community at Virginia Tech, which is often known by our nickname, “the Hokies.” They are integral to what we call the “Hokie Spirit” – the selflessness and unity that makes Virginia Tech a unique place for learning and for living.
We are extremely gratified that our enrollment acceptances from incoming Asian-American Freshman for the coming school year are even higher than they were at this time last year. We will warmly welcome our newest Hokies and look forward to our continued relationship with the Asian-American community.
