IT’S summer, and the New York Times just wrote about a secluded area in Central Park worth going to for a picnic. It’s called The Pool, at Central Park West and 100th-103rd streets. And that’s really good to know, since the annual picnic of La Salle and Assumption will be held there on Saturday, July 14, from 10 am to 6 pm.
The De La Salle Alumni Assn.-East Coast (DLSAA-EC), headed by Ed Lago, and Assumption Alumnae Assn. Abroad-NY (AAAA-NY), headed by Vivian Cruz, are hosting this event, coinciding on Bastille Day, and that’s fitting, as both Saint La Salle and Saint Marie Eugenie were from France.
So, these groups call on all who attended any of the La Salle-affiliated or Assumption schools to come and network, make new friends, and renew old acquaintances, while enjoying the scenery and attractions of Central Park at an Old-Fashioned Summer Picnic.
Special meaning is given this affair: for the recent canonization of Mother Marie Eugenie in Rome, and in memory of La Salle colleague Sal Guevara, who passed away in the spring.
The ‘old-fashioned’ means blankets, mats, picnic chairs, light fare for a day in summer. Picnic organizers said that attendees are welcome to also bring favorite desserts, non-alcoholic drinks, or other food to share, or gifts for the games and raffle. With recent rainy weather, perhaps prayers to these patrons as well as to Sta. Clara are due.
With your family or with your friends, or by yourself – come enjoy for the whole day, or “come and waste an hour or two,” as the Narrator sang in Pippin. Tour other areas at Central Park, like Strawberry Fields, Shakespeare Garden, or the Military Fort (www.centralparknyc.org). Please call your friends and colleagues, and RSVP as soon as you can to help the planning. Invite your friends from other schools too.
Games and entertainment for kids and the not-as-young and a raffle are in store, so please bring a business or social card.

LADIES, hold on to your hearts, because the ultimate Philippine hunk is set to entertain at the Philippine Fiesta! Piolo Pascual is one of the hottest young Philippine actors who has built one of the most colorful and successful careers in the Philippine entertainment industry, attested by his track record of movie hits, sold out concerts, and scores of enthusiastic, cheering fans the world over.
From his first taste of showbusiness an aspiring young entertainer in the youth oriented variety show “That’s Entertainment”, and the children’s program “ATBP”, Piolo moved on as he matured to portray deep character roles in the Philippine drama series “Esperanza” and “Sa Sandaling Kailangan Mo Ako” (Whenever you need me). Wanting to prove his mettle in the challenging world of cinema, he impressed audiences and critics alike in the powerful film “Lagarista”, wherein he played the challenging lead role of a film biker to perfection.
