Walk for Poverty to Aid Samar

NEW YORK ---A call has gone out for ‘Foot Soldiers’ to join the Building Futures Together’s 8th Annual Walk for Poverty for Samar on Saturday, September 15.

The 5 kilometer walk takes place at the beautiful Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Queens. Participants meet at the park under the unisphere, with registration beginning at 9pm, and the 5k (3.5 miles) walk starts at 10 am.

The walk takes place around a lovely lake.

The beneficiaries of the funds raised by the Foot Soldiers taking part are several communities in Samar --- long considered the poorest province in the Philippines.

The BFT’s three-pronged community-based program aims at tackling the lack of sources of income, illiteracy, and malnourishment that plague the communities being served.

This year’s funds will go to the sewing centers for mothers, and a continuing literacy program.

Anyone wishing to join the walk can contact the building Futures Together at 718-426-9471 or email at infobuildingfuturestogether.org
