TOOTS MAGSINO: “Into My Little World”
July 30-October 5, 2007

NEW YORK–A Reception for the artist will be held on September 26, Wednesday, 5:30-7pm

The Grace Institute is pleased to announce the solo exhibition of mixed media paintings by Toots Magsino. Born in Manila, Philippines, this New York based artist has mounted 9 solo exhibitions in the U.S. and the Philippines and has participated internationally in more than 30 two-person and group exhibitions. Of late, Magsino’s career moved up a few notches when her mixed media work “Unveil” was chosen as the cover of Carnegie Hall’s Playbill for June 2007.

According to international artist and critic Ronnie Landfield…“There is simplicity and a disarming directness about Ms. Magsino’s use of a small circle of intimate associations that tend to inhabit her imagery. She freely consults her relationships, friendships, and encounters with people both past and present to inform, inspire and populate her images. However, her work is basically autobiographical, with Ms. Magsino as the central character, even if only and often by virtue of the spirit.

Like a true alchemist, Ms. Magsino changes the mundane and the everyday into the profound and the timeless. The overall feeling of a lot of Toots Magsino’s work is compelling, and vaguely reminiscent of an intimate diary on the nature of existence. It is both a courageous and daring act to risk personal revelation.”

The Grace Institute is located at 1233 Second Avenue between 64th and 65th street. Please contact Ms. Jennifer Camara, Grace Institute curator, for more details. (212) 832-7605
