TONY Figueroa, lawyer and owner of accountant business and chairman of government affairs of the Filipino-American Chamber of Commerce urged fellow officers and supporters to remain united and back each other’s businesses to bolster the entrepreneurial spirit of Filipinos in New Jersey.
At a business owners socials, Filipino business owners led by Gani Morales, Mia Fernandez, Benrome Abao , Jun Florentino and others had fun in a mix. Some of them enjoyed the hot summer dance of Cha-Cha and rock and roll.
“One of the objectives of the chamber is to serve as an effective forum for business owners and create a camaraderie and network,” said Abao.
Abao said in unity, Filipino business owners would not be alone in solving business problems.
In a inspiring speech, Robert Antonicello, executive director of Jersey City Redevelopment Agency said investors were bullish at Jersey City real estate sector as Honeywell International agreed to partner with the city government to transform its brownfields contaminated area into a $1 billion housing project, a smart way to unfrozen gray sites into a bustling, brilliant housing miracle in the near future.
Antonicello said that within four years, over 6,000 housing units would rise near West Side, not far from busy Route 440 to provide housing units for employees and investors who work in the state and in Manhattan. The city is a more affordable alternative to soaring apartment units in New York City and new housing areas are part of the city’s blueprint strategy for economic growth.
“We’re all excited being part of growth of Jersey City, it’s part of our smart growth study, “Mr. Antonicello who got a fantastic reception at the party.
The drawback is that it would take more time to clean-up the land---a victim of Jersey City’s major industrial pollution, as toxic residues from chromium—leaked on this major industrial area. He said properties on the waterfront were investors’ desire as smart buyers wanted to purchase high-end properties with splendor view of Hudson River that shines with purple-orange sunset at dusk.
He noted that the Beacon, a $350 million property of eight Art Deco in downtown area, known as the “Gold Coast,” was attracting a lot of buyers.
He also lauded Grove Pointe high-rise building and the mixed use Powerhouse Arts building on downtown area as successful projects.
In addition to its historic designation and its appeal to the artistic community, the Powerhouse Arts District offers many enticing characteristics, including its close proximity to New York and convenient access to public transportation. It is within walking distance to other downtown historic residential neighborhoods and the Hudson River waterfront walkway and financial district. As the area continues to grow and develop, several commercial and retail spaces, including eateries, fantastic boutiques and art galleries will showcase its brilliance.
