ROCK IN THE BOX WEEKEND: FINAL TIME SLOTS
AND GUIDELINES
(Ted Reyes is a musician, composer, record producer and journalist based in NYC. If you have any comments you can visit his website at www.tedreyes.com or email him at tedreyes@mac.com)

THE historic Rock in the Box Weekend this coming Labor Day Weekend is fast approaching, hence we are announcing the final time slots and guidelines for the two shows.

Although we have released the set times of your favorite artists, we are encouraging everybody to show their support and come in early. Doors open at 8:00 PM for both nights.

Here are a few guidelines for the participating artists:

1. Artists' set times include setup time: 25 mins including setup

2. A backline is provided by both venues: Drum set (minus cymbals, snare, pedals), two guitar amps, and a bass amp. Check venue's websites for more info: Rehab NYC, Crash Mansion

3. Artists can bring their own amps, keyboards and keyboard amps, however, please remember that a long setup time will affect artists' playing time on stage.

4. We are encouraging artists to be at the venues early– It is imperative that the show be right on schedule, plus it would be great to network with other artists during the historic weekend.

5. Participating artists will be given Special Passes to attend both events for free. Meaning, Friday performers can attend the Saturday show without charge, and vice versa.

6. Since this event is for the community, we are encouraging all the artists to invite as many as they can so we could all have a great time and empower our scene.

7. Only one (1) guest per band is allowed.

8. Artists are not encouraged to sell their own CDs in the venue since both venues will only sell Rock in the Box 2 CD. However, bands could sell their wares outside the venues.

9 To prevent set up delays, we are encouraging artists to tune up and prepare before the previous band’s last song ends in order to have a quick transition and help maximize your setup time.

10. Lastly, rock out!

CLAUDINE’S LOVE SCENES NO BIG DEAL
FOR RAYMART

Claudine Baretto
MANILA -- CLAUDINE Barretto has done many teleseryes but she considers her role as Catherine in “Iisa Pa Lamang” the most demanding so far. She is subjected to all sorts of humiliation, deceit, and oppression but gets redeemed and emerges triumphant in the end.

“Malawak ang role kaya mahirap gawin,” says Claudine. “But any actress worth her salt will enjoy portraying Catherine kasi maganda’t makulay talaga ang naging buhay niya.”

Catherine has two childhood friends: Miguel Castillejos (Diether Ocampo) and Raphael Torralba (Gabby Concepcion). Raphael goes to the US and while he’s away, Catherine and Miguel fall in love with each other. When he returns to their hacienda in Amadesto, Batangas, he learns that Catherine and Miguel are already sweethearts so he keeps his feelings for her to himself.

Catherine expects to have a happy life with Miguel, but his mom, Isadora (Cherry Pie Picache), is against their love affair and schemes a horrible plot against her, making her vanish mysteriously. Isadora then forces Miguel to marry a wealthy girl, Scarlet (Angelica Panganiban), but both Miguel and Scarlet realize early on that their marriage is doomed from the start.

Catherine tries to live a new life in Manila with her grandma, Aura (Susan Roces), who becomes her source of hope and strength. A billionaire, Martin dela Rea (Bembol Roco), falls in love with her and proposes marriage. She agrees and it turns out that Martin is the father of Scarlet.

She works in Martin’s company and becomes the boss of her former boyfriend, Miguel, whose wife Scarlet, turns out to be the daughter of Martin from his first marriage. Catherine becomes obsessed with revenge against Miguel and his family. Meantime, Raphael continues to hope that his pure love for Catherine will free her from the bitter hatred and anger that envelope her whole being.

Directed by Ruel Bayani and Manny Palo, “Iisa Pa Lamang” will start airing on July 14 on ABS-CBN’s Primetime Bida. It’ll serve as a Claudine’s birthday treat to her fans as she’ll celebrate her birthday on July 20. She won’t have a party but will do an outreach program for Bantay Bata with hubby Raymart Santiago.

“I just want to share my blessings. Gusto ko ngang magkaroon ng own foundation for abandoned babies.”

How did Raymart react to her hot love scenes with both Gabby and Diether? “No big deal. He understands my work perfectly as he’s also an actor.”

Well, after all, she even had a rape scene with Rafael Rosell in her last show, “Maligno.” (MNS)

GABBY TURNS EMOTIONAL ABOUT DAD'S HEALTH

Gabby Concepcion
MANILA -- GABBY Concepcion could not hold back his tears when he was asked about his dad, Rollie Concepcion, at the presscon of his first teleserye, "Iisa Pa Lamang." While almost everybody knows that Rollie is sick, as Gabby has told interviewers in the past, nobody is aware how seriously ill he is. Not until Gabby himself revealed to everyone at the said presscon.

According to Gab-by, almost all of his dad's arteries are clogged. That's why, he said, he is grateful that he has been given the chance to come home. Not only was he able to visit his dad but he has also been given another chance to revive his showbiz career. He has been away from local showbiz for 13 years.

Except for his sister, Sandy, all of his six siblings are in the US. One of them is an oncologist, who, though not in the country, monitors their father's health.

Sandy, Gabby revealed, owns the pizza parlor located in Little Baguio, San Juan. The pizza, he said, is her own concoction.

"It is my favorite brand of pizza," Gabby stated. "Kaya, when two days ago I received five boxes of Sandy pizza from KC (his 23-year-old daughter by first wife, Sharon Cuneta) sa set ng 'Iisa Pa Lamang,' I was touched.

"KC and I have not seen each other for quite a while. We are both very busy. We make sure, however, that we text each other often."

Gabby hopes, he said, that he will be able to see KC before she leaves for Greece on July 15. Part of KC's first movie "For the First Time" with Richard Gutierrez will be filmed in Greece.

Except for Cherrie Pie Picache with whom he was able to work with when they were younger, it was first time for Gabby to work with most of the cast of "Iisa Pa Lamang."

Let's start with Claudine Barretto, Gabby said. He reminds her much of Gretchen (Barretto), Claudine's elder sister. He has worked previously with Gretchen, and more or less, the sisters are alike in many ways.

How was his kissing scene with Claudine? "Well, its torrid, the way our directors (yes, there are two directors in the teleserye, Ruel Bayani and Manny Palo) instructed us to do," Gabby replied. (MNS)

KIM NOT THREATENED BY NICOLE

Kim Chui
MANILA -- Fanatics of 'My Girl' are in for a big surprise with the introduction of a new character played by Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition Plus Third Teen Placer Nicole Uysiuseng. Nicole is set to debut in the top-rating primetime teleserye as Hannah, the missing cousin whom Julian has been searching for.

Kim Chiu, the lead star of the Koreanovela adaptation, is pretty happy about having a new girl in the cast.

"Masaya kasi magdadagdagan yung barkada namin sa 'My Girl'. Since pareho kami ni Nicole na galing sa PBB, alam ko yung pinagdadaanan niya na first time pa lang siyang sasabak sa acting," Kim revealed to ABS-CBN.com during an interview on the set of the 'My Girl' cast pictorial.

Kim also knows that Nicole will most likely face the same kind of intrigues that she did when she first started out, particularly ones that will compare her with her fellow PBB alum.

"Dati naman nai-compare din ako kay Sandara (Park). Magkaibigan na po kami (Nicole) ngayon, bale wala lang ang intriga." she said.

The 18-year-old teen idol said that she had met Nicole during the ABS-CBN Trade Launch on July 1, where the newcomer still felt shy about approaching the rest of the cast and crew. But since they’re both from Cebu, Kim found her own way of bonding with her new co-star. Kim was even surprised to learn that Nicole’s family lives near their own house in the province.

There are a lot more surprises in store for 'My Girl' fans, including a much-awaited kiss between Julian and Jasmine. Be sure to catch the new twists and surprises on 'My Girl', weeknights on Primetime Bida. (MNS)
