COMMEMORATION OF THE 25TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE DEATH OF NINOY AQUINO, 21 AUGUST 2008
NEW YORK – The Philippine Consulate General New York invites the members of the Filipino community and the general pubic to a special commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the death of Ninoy Aquino this 21st of August 2008.

A reception will be held at 5:30 PM at the lobby of the Philippine Center, to be followed by a special screening of the documentary film “LABAN: The Meaning of the EDSA Revolution.” Made by Filipino film producer Sally Jo Bellosillo, LABAN was first screened in New York’s Angelica Theater in September 2007. It was later shown at the Philippine Consulate to a limited audience during its commemoration of People Power this past February.

This is the first time that the general public are being invited to see the film, as part of the “Sinehan sa Summer” Film Festival of the Philippine Consulate General New York, a fitting tribute to the fallen hero. We hope that members of the community who were active participants during the events that led up to the EDSA Revolution and those who were too young to remember, come to see this unique film, which brings together historical footage never seen in the Philippines and first-person accounts, shedding light on this tumultuous period of Philippine history, from the perspective of the people who influenced events, including: Former President Corazon Aquino, Former President Fidel V. Ramos, Former First Lady Imelda Marcos, Former Senator Gregorio Honasan, Fr. James B. Reuter and many others.

“Sinehan sa Summer” continues throughout the month of August on through the middle of September with the following schedule of award-winning Filipino films:

July 31- Tawag ng Tanghalan
August 7- Nasaan Si Francis?
August 14 – Imelda

DINGDONG DANTES GETS THE BEST OF
BOTH WORLDS
Dingdong Dantes
By Bobby T. Yalong
His footwork did the magic! Dingdong Dantes, (born Jose Sixto Gonzales Dantes III), took the rear entry into the limelight via an all-male dance group, Abztract Dancers, where he’s the most outstanding member because of his towering height and appealing looks, with the most anticipated skillfully choreographed terpsichorean prowess.

GMA-7, where his group regularly performed, got him out of the dance floor and landed him before the cameras as a potential leading man, paired him with an equally fresh talent, Antoinette Taus, in the long running afternoon teen-oriented show, TGIS. The old loveteam formula clicked and instantly attracted a strong following that gradually established their names in the local television and celluloid business.

For even some good things have to last and the Dingdong-Antoinette tandem was not spared when the latter chose to have her self-imposed hiatus and left for the U.S. Although there’s truth that the guy (as the other half) in every disbanded loveteam suffers the most in the process, Dingdong, through his own merit, survived the “catastrophe” and eventually earned a name as a solo artist.

SOP, GMA Channel 7’s Sunday daytime extravaganza, showcases his singing and dancing skills while its annual talent search, STARSTRUCK, hones his hosting capabilities, and in most cases, displays his dandy-trendy wardrobes that ultimately reveals his keen and meticulous choice of outfits… proving his impeccable fashion sense. His high-gross-earning movies are clear manifestations of his strong crowd-drawing power while his being an extremely competent actor easily catapulted him to the level of an accomplished dramatic performer.

After a series of supporting and one-of-those-so-so-roles came his biggest break… Kapuso Network’s adaptation of the then Mexican tele-novela, MARIMAR,. Since luck begets luck, then it was just right to pair two lucky stars, Dingdong and Marian Rivera. If a strong on-screen chemistry is a reliable barometer to gauge a successful team-up, then the new pair has effortlessly established a solid partnership… and maybe, even surpassed the standard expected of them..

To sustain the phenomenal success of Marimar, the tandem of Dingdong and Marian is back once more via an old-time favorite that will put their talent to a litmus test… Dingdong as the suave, handsome heir to a vast fortune, Fredo while Marian as the beauteous half-fish-half-human sea nymph, DYESEBEL. Since is pilot airing, Dyesebel has maintained its all-time high tv rating… making it the most watched romantic/fantasy series in primetime television.

Dingdong’s lucky streak isn’t only limited to television and the silver screen. After his well-publicized almost all-out skin exposure in a popular health magazine, Bench signed him for a full-blast ad matched with an undisclosed figure. His unveiled giant billboard caused a stir and jam along EDSA when it showed him donning nothing but only his confidence in a white Bench skivvies. Very cleverly conceptualized! Effectively executed! Its instant success was followed by another major ad campaign, a liquor endorsement… making him one of the busiest (if not the only) celebrity male ad endorsers in the country today. If only luck is to be personified, easily, it will be Dingdong. How else would you decipher the bombastic blast of his booming career, be it on tv and the wide screen, modeling and print exposures, advertising and out-of-town shows? Such a hard feat to follow!

Get the rare chance to meet Mr. Luck in person! Come face to face with Dingdong Dantes! Watch him perform at the Philippine Fiesta on August 16 and 17, 2008 at the Meadowlands Expo Center in Secaucus, N.J. together with other celebrity guests, Marian Rivera, Bea Alonzo, Divo Bayer, Poca and Rey Kilay. Participate, join and celebrate the traditional merriment and cultural festivities of the biggest gathering of Filipinos and Expo exhibitors this part of the East Coast. Let’s “Fiesta” together!
