The United Federation of Fil-Am Educators (UNIFFIED) had its first summit on May 24-25, 2014 at the Avi Hotel in Largo, Maryland.   The chapters took time out to be a part of the great event. 


The presidents of California, North Carolina, and numerous representatives from the other chapters came over to meet and join the other groups from New York, New Jersey, Maryland and Washington, DC. 

Saturday morning to afternoon was devoted to Professional Development tackling subjects like Grant Writing, Use of Social Media in the classroom and Autism, Immigration issues and the ratification of the new constitution. 

The evening was the ball and the awarding of the 11 teachers for Rising to the Challenge of Excellence in Education. 

The awardees were: Mary Angel Flores, PA;  Cicelia Aguilar and Ramil Orbita, NC; Angela Calado and Amalia Nogales, MD; Sharon Oliveros, WDC;  Estrellita Richter, TX; Gemma Espinosa, CA; Celia Morales, NJ;  Rowena  Adalla and Jonathan Demol, NY. 

The HELPING HAND award was presented to Jesus Martin Reyes, Esq., and another special award to  Labor Attache,  Luzviminda Padilla. 


It was a night of revelry with dancing, the rendition of songs in Tagalog by Guy Serrino of NY and the  Induction of the Officers of UNIFFIED  by no other than Consul  Arlene Magno. Some teachers spent the following day in a tour of DC.
