Teachers inspire the smallest heart to grow big; enough to change the world. They help plant the seed, nurture it with love and make it grow into reality.

For the first time, the United Federation of Fil-Am Educators is launching  its vision of recognizing Filipino teachers who through his/her efforts have made a difference in a school or a community not only through his/her academic accomplishments but more on reaching out  beyond teaching in the classroom. The Search is open to all teachers Filipinos and Filipino-Americans in and around the United States of America.  

The goal of the Award is to find teachers with accomplishments who inspire or help an individual to achieve their highest potentials in life or improve a community.  It is not only what the teacher accomplishes inside the classroom but what he/she does beyond the four walls of the school.  In short, we want to see his/her purpose in life as a teacher in making a difference in uplifting a community in the Philippines. We are looking for teachers with a PURPOSE.

The teacher has to be nominated by any two of the following: a colleague, a parent or student detailing in a letter why he/she should be “Distinguished Teacher of the Year”. Two letters of nomination is required. No self-nomination, please.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

a)  A  master of arts/science degree in any area of education. 

b) Teachers of the elementary, secondary, business schools and higher education, either in public or private sectors who are still active in the classroom currently for the past five years.  Membership in any existing organization is a must.

Current officers and board members of UNIFFIED are not allowed to participate.

 

REQUIREMENTS FOR SUBMISSION

Copies of the following (originals to be submitted for the final selection):

a) Performance rating for the past 3 consecutive years attached with a copy of the formal observation report for the last year only.

b) Written citations from the principal or any superior/ organizations/politicians/parents/students/others. 

c) Plaques of recognition/awards/certificates from any organization/clubs/schools.

d) Publications done by the teacher on any subject matter or topics here in America.

e) Interviews conducted that was documented on media, either in television or publications, newspapers, magazines.

f) A short essay of 300 words on any viable project that he/she can implement or already existing to help the  community/teachers/students in the Philippines. 

Note: PLEASE DO NOT SEND ANY BINDER WITH THE DOCUMENTS.  CLIP THE PAPERS AND INSERT IN AN ENVELOPE.                       

A.  The winners will each receive a Plaque and a medal

B.  Semi-finalists and nominators will receive a Certificate of Recognition/ appreciation. 

C.  Ten winners will be selected: From the ten, One will be selected as The Distinguished Teacher of the Year (Gawad Tanging Guro ng Taon na may Layunin) To be determined as follows:  Out of the ten winners one will receive the top award to be announced only during the awarding and will receive one thousand dollars ($1,000). 

Application forms may be submitted/mailed on or before November 30, 2015 to 316 Terrace Ave. Jersey City, New Jersey 07307. Only the application form with the documents to follow by December 31. Good luck to all!
