NEWARK, New Jersey -- In preparation for the Sanatcruzan & Flores de Mayo celebration, the Catholic Action of Mary (CAM) hosted its Annual Santacruzan Presentation Ball at the Doubletree by Hilton Hotel on Saturday, May 14, 2016.

The special evening began with the introduction of the CAM officers. On behalf of the Mayor of the City of Jersey City, Council President Rolando Lavarro presented a Citation to CAM for preserving this tradition for the past 38 years in the Fil-Am community. 

Master of ceremonies Deacon Cesar Sarmiento remarked “It was just like last evening that we were all together.” It was time for last year’s Reynas to take their farewell walk and the new Reynas to be crowned. Elyssa Ann Reyes - Reyna Elena I (2015), Julieanne Mae Bulatao - Reyna Elena II (2015) made their final walk and the Reynas of 2016 were presented. Crowned were Zezlet Kae D. Depano - Reyna Elena, Maria Ysabella Calleja - Reyna De Las Flores & Ramona S. Gapasin - Reyna Emperatriz. Also honored and presented were the Hermanos y Hermanas Mayores 2016: Leticia R. Balagot, Lee Gloria Bracero, Ruth P. Sa-Onoy, Gregory De Guzman and Dr. Prospero A. Lim. We would like to thank these distinguished and prominent members of the Filipino community for their generous contributions to the Parish. We would like to thank this year’s Chairperson of Santacruzan Deacon Cesar Sarmiento and Vice Chairperson Eloisa Porto. The Ball was attended by over 200 guests.


The East Coast’s Largest & Longest Running Sanatcruzan Celebration

On Sunday, May 29, 2016, Santacruzan day proper, as part of the festivities, CAM in cooperation with PACCAL (Pan American Concerned Citizens Action League), will be celebrating with the “Santacruzan and Flores de Mayo Festival 2016”, CAM's celebration is the largest and longest running Santacruzan in the East Coast, USA.  The festival is an all-day event complete with over 100 vendors including, flea market type, food concessions, non-profit organizations, businesses, exhibitors, live on stage performances, arts and crafts, games and all day fun activities for the entire family. (10am-8pm). The highlight of the day is the Religious Procession and the traditional celebration of the Santacruzan with the Hermanos y Hermanas Mayores, the Reynas & Sagalas.  There will be a mass at St. Mary’s Church, Second St. corner of Erie St., Jersey City at 2:30 pm and the procession follows immediately after the mass. We are proud to announce this year's Festival will be on (6) six city blocks along Manila Ave. which includes the “Health Fair” and “Fil-Am 5K Race  & 1 Mile Run/Walk.” (10am race start.) Last year’s Santacruzan Festival was attended by over 10,000 people.

About CAM

CAM is the Filipino lay organization in Jersey City, NJ. It was originally started in 1978 as an organization at St. Mary's Church. CAM's parish fundraising activities, continues to preserve the celebration of several Filipino cultural traditions including: Sto. Nino de Tondo Fiesta, Pabasa, Easter Salubong, Divine Mercy Pilgrimage, Santacruzan and Flores de Mayo and Simbang Gabi. Misang Pilipino is held every 1st Sunday of the month at St. Mary's Church. Everyone is welcome to experience a celebration of the Holy Eucharist in our Tagalog language. After the Holy Mass in Marian Hall, join the fellowship and breakfast.
