Free Classes Feature Salsa/Latin Dance and African Dance

JERSEY CITY -- Mayor Steven M. Fulop is pleased to announce the addition of two new dance classes at The Bethune Center, which is part of the administration’s ongoing expansion of culture, recreation, and community programming at the facility. 

 

The two new adult dance classes – which are FREE and open to the public – are Salsa/Latin Dance and African Dance.  

“We are proud to expand recreational activities throughout the city, especially here at the Mary McLeod Bethune Center where we are working to develop a wide range of community programming,” said Mayor Fulop. “I encourage residents to take advantage of the free programs made available by the Department of Recreation and the Bethune Center, such as the dance classes, in order to maintain a healthy and fit lifestyle.” 

Please join us for Salsa/Latin Dance on Tuesdays from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., and African Dance on Thursdays from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Mary McLeod Bethune Center, 140 Martin Luther King Drive.  Salsa/Latin Dance will begin on Tuesday, November 12, with instructor, Edson Jeune, and African Dance, which will begin on Thursday, November 14, with instructor, Yah'Ya Kanate. 

Salsa/Latin Dance instructor, Edson Jeune is a professional American Rhythm and Latin Dance instructor at The Manhattan Ballroom Dance Center and past U.S Rising Star Competition Finalist. He is well versed in teaching all forms of social and competitive dancing, both domestically and internationally. 

African Dance instructor, Yah'Ya Kanate is an instructor at the Ailey Extension, as well as a performer and dance teacher of the Friends Academy. He is a former member of the National Ballet of the Ivory Coast, Bush Gardens, the Animal Kingdom, and the Epcot Center.
