On November 20, 2013, a small community of volleyball enthusiasts based in Jersey City, NJ, otherwise known as the Lincoln Park Volleyball (LPV) group, came together with a common purpose in mind: to find unique ways to contribute to the victims of Typhoon Haiyan.

Heartbroken by the tragedies endlessly displayed on news programs, the committee of LPV, led by co-founders, Cesar Nikko Negado and Allyson Pendon, decided to show support in the best way they knew possible - by hosting a volleyball tournament in which all proceeds would be sent to relief foundations based in the Philippines.

Without a moment to spare, the LPV committee came together to brainstorm details and network to other passionate volleyball players to create one of the biggest and most successful tournaments, with 18 teams registered within the first three days and over 100+ individual participants and supporters.

The tournament was held on December 8, 2013 with special thanks to Justin Beaumont, creator of Sideout Sports, for avidly volunteering his venue. After an extensive 13 hours of intense and rigorous volleyball activity, the committee had successfully raised $3,810 with additional, overflowing donations of canned goods and clothing to victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines. The day ended with two victorious teams, but inarguably, the true winners were the participants and supporters who selflessly contributed to a greater cause.
