As much as Floyd Mayweather Jr. regards himself as “TBE” or the best ever, one boxing legend won’t have any of that talk.

Former world heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield spoke with Boxingscene.com and argued Mayweather’s claims of being the sport’s greatest.

“Everyone has that opinion of himself and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with having that opinion. But do I really think that about Mayweather? No, I don’t,” he said.

“I definitely think he’s a great fighter  - I wouldn’t take that away from him - but you can’t say [you’re the] best ever until everything stops, each generation is supposed to get better.”

The 38-year-old Mayweather retired for the second time last Saturday, September 12, after he easily dispatched Andre Berto for his 49th win, tying him with Rocky Marciano’s undefeated 49-0 record.

Holyfield did give Mayweather, who officially announced his retirement after his 12-round obliteration of Andre Berto on Saturday, some props for staying unscathed, but even that comes with a catch.

“He will definitely go down as one of the great fighters in whatever weight division they choose to put him in. He won the championship in a lot of divisions, but he never fought everybody.” Inquirer.net
